Just participated in the finals of the Andy Kaufman Awards and all I can say is, “WOW.” I don’t think words can do justice to the events that transpired last night and tonight. I had the incredible pleasure of meeting Andy’s family (including his brother, his sister, and his dad), which was honestly a tremendous treat, as was hearing their kind words about my performance. Plus, I got to to see a ton of Andy’s memorabilia in the mini-museum they built for the lobby at Caroline’s tonight, which was awesome and awe-inspiring. The bottom line is that Andy is one of my heroes and even being able to participate in something that perpetuates his legacy is a great honor. That I made it to the finals and got to showcase my act for a sold-out show at Caroline’s in front of Andy’s family and friends, as well as his fans (with Tony Clifton hosting!) — I can’t tell you how fortunate and blessed I feel and how inspired I am to continue to push the boundaries of comedy in my performances.
Because of this competition - seeing so many wonderful clips of Andy, watching so many incredible performances by the other contestants, hearing so many wonderful words spoken about Andy’s contributions - I can feel a creative energy bubbling inside me I’ve never felt this strongly before. I can’t wait to draw from it and use it in my comedy. I want to make Andy proud and am excited for the future!
